  • I got a deal on one of these boxes. $650 USD. I’m pulling the 2080Ti, 240MM Radiator, fans and all to run in my desktop. 2080Ti’s can easily break 17K timespy graphics score on air cooling with proper bios, or soldering on shunts to trick the power. I would never run this on a laptop lol. You’d be better of with a GTX1080 or something. These numbers are not good at all. In this test. If they could get thunderbolt to 100+ GBPS then maybe it would be ok. But we just are not there yet. I’d only recommend this box if you use applications that could fully utilize the GPU over thunderbolt. Meaning, “Not games unfortunately” or if you found a super good deal.

  • eGPUs don't care if you're running on internal display or not. You have 40 Gb/s in BOTH directions. So if you run on internal display you're just using some of those 40 Gb/s that you have in the direction of the laptop.

  • Perhaps an impractical reference point for most, but I’d be curious to see how close a desktop with an internal liquid cooled RTX 2080 Ti compares to the same desktop using the external RTX 2080 Ti. The value proposition is potentially higher for some people if they have a heterogeneous mix of devices with multiple users, provided the enclosure isn’t super bottlenecked on thunderbolt. The enclosure could then benefit even their better systems when it is available as a resource.

  • A built in 2080 laptop does better than TB3 with 2080 ti. I’ve seen 10k plus on timespy That’s just to give you that example of what you lose going this route. But it’s good to see what you gain over something like a 1650

    KING0SISQOKING0SISQOPrieš 10 mėnesių
  • No point unless your laptop is deliberately bought to be low powered gpu with long battery you need on the road but when you get home you want to game HARD. If you have 2060 and above on a laptop and buy this. You have to question why you spent so much on a all in one to make its core part useless using this add on. You’re just wasting money

    KING0SISQOKING0SISQOPrieš 10 mėnesių
  • It seems to me that you would be better off using the same set up but with a lower rated GPU so that it would not cost $1500. I bet a cheaper GPU would give you the same performance as this grossly over priced Nvidia GPU. In my opinion NO GAMING GPU IS WORTH $1200. Nvidia is just screwing their customers. I guess that they can get away with it because there are enough gamers who are buying their over priced stuff.

  • I was wondering how Thunderbolt could be a bottleneck. It's actually surprisingly easy. TB3 has a bandwidth of 40 Gbit/s or 5 Gbyte/s (minus overhead). I don't think you can stack Lanes the way you can with PCIe, but correct me if i am wrong. PCIe has a bandwidth of 1 Gbyte/s per Lane, usually GPU slots have 16x Lanes attached which leads to 16 Gbyte/s (minus overhead)

  • Gaming on my 2016 MBPr 15“ via Bootcamp and Aorus GTX1080 since 2017.... works well, but nothing new.... Thunderbolt3 stops beeing a bottleneck when you put the load primarily on the GPU: 4k, big textures, shaders etc... With that you may loose 5-7% compared to PCIe x8/16, so great to have one Laptop to do everything

  • For 1500 dollars you could build a 2080 super gaming pc easily that would likely match this performance without having to plug your laptop into it. Heck with a bit of shopping around you may even be able to squeeze a 2080 ti into the build and get better performance as you don't have to deal with the bottle neck

I would like to see aida64 showing the thunderbolt bandwidth usage so you can prove your guesses not just a shot in the dark "we know your right the FPS show it" this video was way better than your Walmart laptop that video seemed close to "The Verge" Status.
